The San Francisco SMPTE Section has curated a panel of industry professionals who attended NAB, including our SMPTE student chapter presidents Marcelle Rutherford (CCSF/SFSU) and Joseph Borrego (De Anza College). They will provide their insights on the key technologies and trends unveiled at the event. Additionally, Thomas True from NVIDIA will introduce the new Holoscan, and together with Dave Van Hoy from ASG and Matt Lavine from BugID, they will share other valuable insights gathered from the show floor. SMPTE San Francisco Section December Meeting - Media and Entertainment Digital Storage During a Pandemic

With the movement to remote work, M&E storage has shifted to leveraging private and public clouds to complement local storage in today's collaborative workflows.  Digital production may be starting to recover following safety precautions and greater use of automation.   Content distribution has surged to entertain those who are stuck at home.  At the same time new storage and memory technologies are playing a bigger role in M&E, including NVMe SSDs and NVMe-oF based storage systems.  This talk presents results from the 2020 Digital Storage in M&E report looking at trends in 2020 and projecting into the future for digital storage for video production, post production, content distribution and archiving.

Tom Coughlin, President, Coughlin Associates is a digital storage analyst and business and technology consultant.  He has over 39 years in the data storage industry with engineering and senior management positions at several companies.  Coughlin Associates consults, publishes books and market and technology reports (including The Media and Entertainment Storage Report and an Emerging Memory Report), and puts on digital storage-oriented events.  He is a regular storage and memory contributor for forbes.com and M&E organization websites.  He is an IEEE Fellow, Past-President of IEEE-USA and is active with SNIA and SMPTE.
